litres of water annually, the single largest boost to Melbourne’s
water supply since the Thomson dam was built 25 years ago. The
desalination plant will use reverse osmosis technology to convert
sea water into drinking water, which will be piped some 85
kilometres to connect to Melbourne’s water supply system near
Cardinia Reservoir. Renewable energy will be purchased to offset the
expected 90 megawatts of electricity a year required to run the
plant. Project development continues in a number of additional
